XRP Ledger Celebrates 14 Years
XRP Ledger marks its 14th anniversary, having processed more than 4.41 billion transactions.
he XRP Ledger community is celebrating the network’s 14th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Ripple representatives reflected on the project’s growth and highlighted the crucial role played by users and developers in its success.
David Schwartz, former Ripple CTO and one of the creators of XRPL, wrote on X that the project was originally designed to create a better system for transferring value around the world. He emphasized that the success of XRP Ledger was not solely the result of its founders’ efforts. While Arthur Britto, Jed McCaleb, and Schwartz himself laid the foundation, the network’s growth was driven by its broader community, including developers, validators, businesses, and users.
Schwartz thanked everyone who has contributed to the XRP ecosystem over the years. His post sparked numerous responses from community members, many of whom pointed to the project’s resilience despite the rapid changes that have shaped the cryptocurrency market.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also joined the celebrations, describing his long-term support for XRP as “the honor of a lifetime.” Over the years, Garlinghouse has consistently expressed his commitment to the XRP ecosystem, even commemorating it with an XRP logo tattoo on his right arm.
The anniversary also brought attention to the project’s early beginnings. An XRPL validator known as Vet shared one of the first pieces of code written by Jed McCaleb on October 14, 2011. The network itself was launched several months later, in June 2012.
Among the early code was a variable named “Faith,” accompanied by the comment: “You have to accept the First Ledger (Genesis) on Faith.” According to Vet, the phrase perfectly captures the spirit of the project’s early days, when building the network required confidence in its future potential.
Fourteen years later, XRP Ledger remains one of the longest-running blockchain networks in the cryptocurrency industry. Over time, it has evolved far beyond its original focus on payments. Today, the network supports cross-border payment solutions, institutional use cases, and asset tokenization.
XRPL technology is also being adopted by major financial institutions. One notable example is Japan’s SBI Group, which has launched a fully regulated token issuance platform on the XRP Ledger network.
According to data from Dune Analytics, XRP Ledger has processed more than 4.41 billion transactions since its launch. In the last 24 hours alone, the network handled approximately 1.92 million operations.
XRP also remains one of the largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, currently ranking fifth globally. The asset’s market value stands at approximately $76.02 billion, while a single XRP token is priced at around $1.22.
