Solana Faces Court Scrutiny as Class-Action Lawsuit Challenges Memecoins and the Foundations of the Network’s Technology
Solana and Pump.fun have found themselves at the center of a class-action lawsuit that challenges not only memecoins, but the very technology behind the entire network.
The year 2025 has proven to be a turning point for memecoins, which are increasingly moving into the financial mainstream. The launch of a Dogecoin ETF and growing interest in instruments based on Bonk have prompted investors to reassess these high-risk, speculative assets.
Against this backdrop, the Solana network has stood out in particular. Projects such as Official Trump and Melania Meme have strengthened its position as a platform for fast, high-volume transactions—an environment well suited to memecoins. However, this rapid growth has attracted not only users, but also the attention of legal authorities.
A U.S. federal court has allowed a class-action lawsuit to proceed against Pump.fun, Solana Labs, and other projects connected to the network. The allegations include market manipulation, but the case goes far beyond individual tokens. Crucially, the lawsuit questions Solana’s underlying technology—specifically its extremely fast and efficient architecture.
According to the plaintiffs, these technical capabilities made it possible for insiders to gain early access to new memecoin launches. This, in turn, led to a heavy concentration of supply. In the case of the PUMP token, the ten largest holders reportedly control around 70% of the circulating supply, limiting retail participation and influencing price dynamics.
PUMP is currently trading about 3.15% below its ICO price of $0.02. The plaintiffs argue that supply was deliberately kept low to manipulate the market and shift losses onto retail investors. They emphasize, however, that PUMP is merely a symptom of a broader issue—the real subject of the dispute is how the entire Solana ecosystem operates.
If the court accepts these arguments, the consequences could extend far beyond a single project, potentially affecting the entire network and all entities connected to it.
