Ripple Expands in Africa and Turkey
Ripple is seeing rapid growth in cryptocurrency adoption across Sub-Saharan Africa and Turkey.
The company reports rising interest in its services in both regions. Reece Merrick, Ripple’s Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa, emphasized that crypto adoption is accelerating at an exceptional pace. In countries struggling with inflation, currency devaluation, and limited access to traditional financial services, digital assets are becoming practical tools rather than a short-lived trend.
According to Merrick’s data, the total transaction value in Sub-Saharan Africa increased by 52% between July 2024 and June 2025, reaching 205 billion dollars. Stablecoins accounted for 43% of all volume. In Turkey, interest in crypto has grown alongside the weakening lira, which has lost 80% of its value since 2021. With inflation around 70%, more than half of the country’s adult population is now involved with cryptocurrencies in some way.
Ripple is also expanding its presence through partnerships with payment companies. In March, it announced a collaboration with Chipper Cash to support cross-border payments in Africa. Earlier, in 2023, the company strengthened its foothold on the continent through cooperation with Onafriq. Ripple also completed a pilot drought-insurance program in Kenya, providing coverage for 517 pastoralists, most of them women.
The XRP market is showing clear signs of activity as well. New ETFs launched by Franklin Templeton and Grayscale have driven renewed interest, while the Bitwise XRP ETF recorded 118 million dollars in inflows last week. CME Group has also announced plans to launch spot-priced futures contracts on December 15, pending regulatory approval.
