Arthur Hayes on the Crypto Market in 2026
Arthur Hayes predicts that in 2026 the crypto market will focus on privacy and DeFi, but he warns against blindly copying his moves.
Arthur Hayes, the founder of the BitMEX exchange, has outlined his vision for the cryptocurrency market in 2026. In a recent blog post, he highlighted political and macroeconomic factors that, in his view, could have a significant impact on market behavior.
According to Hayes, developments in the United States and the situation in the oil market will play a key role. Political uncertainty and economic shifts may, he argues, push investors’ attention toward specific segments of the crypto market.
Hayes believes that privacy will be the dominant theme in the industry in 2026. As a result, projects focused on anonymity, as well as selected DeFi solutions, are likely to gain importance. Among the cryptocurrencies he named as potential beneficiaries of this trend are Zcash, PENDLE, and ETHFI. He emphasized that Zcash is a core privacy-focused project for him and that he continues to hold a large position in it.
Hayes also commented on the investment performance of his firm, Maelstrom, in 2025. He admitted that the biggest profits came from investments in Bitcoin and projects such as PENDLE and ETHFI. At the same time, he openly acknowledged that investments in memecoins resulted in significant losses and that most of those trades ended unsuccessfully.
Finally, it is worth noting that Arthur Hayes’s opinions should not be treated as direct investment advice. He has repeatedly shown that he can change his decisions depending on market conditions. A few months ago, he sold a large number of HYPE tokens that he had previously praised publicly and claimed to be buying for long-term holding. The profits were used for personal purposes, including the purchase of a luxury car. This serves as a reminder that even high-profile forecasts from well-known market figures do not replace independent analysis and a cautious approach to investing.
