Strategy Stops Buying Bitcoin
Strategy pauses Bitcoin purchases for four weeks while building its cash reserve ahead of quarterly results.
Strategy has not purchased any Bitcoin for four consecutive weeks, marking its longest break from buying the cryptocurrency in two years.
Michael Saylor continues to hint that the company may resume its purchases. On July 26, he posted a chart on X with the caption: “We’re going to need another color.” However, no new transaction has been announced since then.
Strategy currently holds 843,775 BTC, acquired for a total of $63.69 billion. At current prices, the holdings are worth approximately $55.1 billion—around $8.6 billion less than the company paid for them.
Instead of buying more Bitcoin, Strategy is now increasing its cash reserves. In mid-July, the company sold more than 2.7 million of its own shares, raising $263.5 million. Its cash reserve has since grown to $3.225 billion.
The cash is needed partly to cover dividend payments. In June, CryptoQuant’s Julio Moreno warned that Strategy’s reserves were shrinking rapidly while its financial obligations continued to rise.
The company is due to publish its second-quarter results on July 30. The report may provide further details about Strategy’s plans for the months ahead.
