The Future of the Digital Euro
Experts will discuss the development of digital currencies and the future of finance in Europe.
On March 26, 2026, the Digital Euro Conference 2026 will take place, one of the most important events dedicated to the future of digital money. The conference will be held in a hybrid format, allowing participants to attend either in person or online. Representatives from the financial sector, central banks, regulatory institutions, technology companies, and fintech firms will gather to take part in the discussions.
The main goal of the conference is to explore the development of digital forms of money and financial infrastructure. Key topics will include central bank digital currencies, stablecoins, and tokenized money issued by commercial banks. Participants will also discuss challenges related to implementing new payment technologies, system interoperability, privacy, and the development of a European digital financial infrastructure.
The event program has been divided into three thematic tracks: Main Stage, Innovation Room, and Roundtable Room. During the sessions, experts will examine early practical tests of central bank digital currencies and their potential impact on the financial system. Discussions will also cover the development of European financial settlement infrastructure, the possible use of the digital euro in wholesale settlements, and cooperation between public blockchains, corporate systems, and banks.
Another important topic will be the vision for the European digital money ecosystem by 2030. Experts will attempt to answer how the future financial architecture might look if traditional institutions are combined with emerging technologies.
Confirmed speakers include Dr. Alexandra Hachmeister from Deutsche Bundesbank, Ulrich Bindseil from TU Berlin, Agnese Gentile from Banca d’Italia, Adeline Bachellerie from Banque de France, Sonja Davidovic from the International Monetary Fund, Marco Kessler from SIX Group, Thibault Pelé from Worldline, and Nick Kerigan from Swift. During the conference, they will share their experiences and forecasts regarding the future of digital finance.
The event is organized by the Digital Euro Association, a think tank focused on cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, and central bank digital currencies. The organization promotes knowledge exchange and the development of new ideas related to digital money.
At the same time, the European Union is accelerating its work on introducing the digital euro. The goal is to maintain competitiveness with other regions of the world that are rapidly developing their own digital currency solutions and modern payment systems. European institutions aim to avoid a situation in which the continent’s financial sector falls behind global technological developments.
