North Carolina Plans to Invest in Bitcoin
North Carolina may allocate up to 10% of public funds to Bitcoin as part of a new investment strategy.
North Carolina is considering allocating up to 10 percent of its public funds to Bitcoin investments.
A new legislative proposal has emerged in the state, focusing on the use of public funds for cryptocurrency investments. The bill, titled the Bitcoin Reserve and Investment Act, would allow a portion of state funds to be directly invested in Bitcoin.
Under the proposal, the state treasurer would be authorized to allocate up to 10 percent of public funds into the cryptocurrency. The goal is not only to boost financial innovation in the region but also to establish a long-term strategic reserve based on digital assets.
The bill also emphasizes security measures. Any purchased Bitcoin would be stored in so-called “cold wallets,” meaning offline storage, with additional protection through multi-signature access. This approach would require approval from multiple authorized parties to access the funds, significantly reducing the risk of unauthorized use.
Regular oversight is also included in the proposal. The status of the reserve, security measures, and financial performance would be audited on a monthly basis to ensure transparency and maintain control over the investment.
Additionally, the plan предусматривает the creation of a special advisory board made up of industry experts. Its role would be to support state authorities in developing an investment strategy and ensuring its stable and sustainable growth.
