Trump to Sell “Trading Signals”?
Faster access to Trump’s posts could give banks, funds and algorithmic traders an edge in financial markets.
Many people, particularly within the trading community, have long pointed out that Donald Trump’s statements and social media posts can send prices on a wild ride across both stock and cryptocurrency markets. A proposed tariff, a change in his stance toward a particular industry, or even a comment about a specific asset has often been enough to trigger a sudden wave of buying or selling.
There have also been suspicions that Trump or people close to him may have had advance knowledge of decisions and announcements capable of moving the markets. Critics have sometimes described this as insider trading—the use of significant, non-public information to make trades before other investors can react. It is important to stress, however, that suspicions, suspicious timing, or unusually successful trades do not in themselves prove that a crime has been committed.
Now, the situation could become even more controversial. Trump Media & Technology Group, the company behind the Truth Social platform, has announced plans to launch a service called Truth API. It is expected to provide banks, investment funds, and algorithmic trading firms with exceptionally fast access to posts published by the platform’s most influential accounts—potentially including Donald Trump’s own account.
These will not be “trading signals” in the traditional sense, such as direct instructions to “buy Bitcoin” or “sell stocks.” Instead, companies will receive raw information faster than ordinary users.
In practice, this could give traders a crucial timing advantage. If Trump publishes a post about tariffs, war, cryptocurrency regulation, or a particular sector of the economy, Truth API clients may be able to read it, make a decision, and begin trading before the wider public can react. They will not receive ready-made buy or sell recommendations—only faster access to publicly posted information.
According to Trump Media’s official announcement, the service is scheduled to launch on August 1, 2026. It will offer a round-the-clock data feed and an archive of posts dating back to 2022. The company describes it as a legal, licensed data-access service designed for the financial sector.
The controversy stems from Trump’s dual role. As president, he can publish information with the power to affect the global economy. At the same time, his family remains financially connected to the company that plans to sell faster access to that information.
This raises an important question: Is Truth API simply another financial data service, or is it an attempt to commercialize the informational advantage that comes with holding the most powerful office in the country?
