AI Infrastructure Deal Sends Hut 8 Shares Higher

Hut 8 shares climbed by nearly 10% on Monday after the company signed a lease agreement for the second phase of its Beacon Point data center campus in Texas. The 15-year contract is worth $9.8 billion.

The tenant is the same highly creditworthy company that previously leased the first phase of the facility. The new agreement covers an additional 352 MW of computing capacity dedicated to artificial intelligence workloads. The infrastructure will be built using Nvidia’s data center architecture.

The total capacity contracted by the client will now reach 704 MW. As a result, Hut 8 has fully allocated the campus’s entire 1 GW power capacity. The total base value of the Beacon Point contracts has risen to $19.6 billion for the initial lease terms.

A growing number of bitcoin mining companies are adapting their infrastructure to meet the needs of the AI industry. Low cryptocurrency prices have made bitcoin mining less profitable, while data centers with access to large amounts of power and efficient cooling systems are well suited to supporting the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
