Trump Pardons Binance Founder CZ, Sparking Speculation About His Return as CEO

Is CZ Returning as Binance CEO?

After being pardoned by Donald Trump, rumors began circulating that Changpeng Zhao (CZ), the founder of Binance, might return as the company’s CEO.

CZ received the pardon nearly two years after stepping down from the position and admitting to failures in preventing money laundering. In a statement posted on X, he thanked Trump for the decision and said he would work to make the United States “the global capital of crypto.”

The market reacted instantly — the value of the BNB token jumped by 8%, and Zhao’s net worth, according to Bloomberg, now stands at $58 billion.

The pardon sparked widespread speculation that CZ could once again lead Binance. Fueling the rumors further, Zhao changed his social media bio from “ex-Binance” to “@Binance.” He hasn’t confirmed any plans to return, though during the Token2049 conference in Dubai, he admitted that he “can’t just sit still” and wants to stay productive.

Some experts believe his comeback would be a natural move that could strengthen the company.

“A founder returning often boosts an organization’s performance,” said Cosmo Jiang of Pantera Capital.

Others remain more cautious. David Namdar of BNB Treasury stated that Zhao does not intend to resume the CEO role, though he will continue to be involved in Binance’s operations.

Whether or not he returns to the top job, CZ has once again found himself at the center of the crypto world’s attention.
