El Salvador Buys More Bitcoin During the Market Dip
El Salvador added more Bitcoin during the recent price drop, bringing its holdings close to 7,600 BTC.
El Salvador has once again taken advantage of a Bitcoin market correction by increasing its cryptocurrency reserves. As Bitcoin's price fell below $66,000, the government purchased additional BTC, continuing its long-term accumulation strategy.
The country's Bitcoin reserves now stand at nearly 7,600 BTC. At current market prices, these holdings are valued at more than $510 million.
This latest purchase is part of an ongoing policy rather than a one-off investment. For several years, the Salvadoran government has been steadily expanding its Bitcoin reserves, acquiring an average of one Bitcoin per day. Between January and April alone, the country added more than 1,600 BTC to its holdings.
The buying program has continued despite El Salvador's agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Under the $1.4 billion deal, the country eased some of its Bitcoin-related regulations. While Bitcoin remains legal, businesses are no longer required to accept it as a form of payment.
However, President Nayib Bukele has remained committed to his pro-Bitcoin stance. The government continues to expand its BTC reserves, even during periods of market volatility and price declines.
El Salvador made history in 2021 by becoming the first country in the world to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender. Despite ongoing fluctuations in the cryptocurrency market, the government continues to strengthen its Bitcoin position through consistent and regular purchases.
