BNP Paribas Opens Up to Cryptocurrencies

BNP Paribas is expanding its investment offering by introducing new instruments linked to the cryptocurrency market. Starting March 30, 2026, retail clients in France can invest in ETNs based on the performance of Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The new products are now available on the bank’s trading platform and include six different instruments. They allow investors to gain exposure to cryptocurrencies without needing to buy or store them directly. A standard securities account compliant with EU MiFID II regulations is sufficient to access these investments.

ETNs are regulated financial instruments designed to track the value of selected assets. In this case, they mirror the price movements of cryptocurrencies without requiring investors to hold the actual tokens. This approach may appeal to those looking to enter the digital asset market in a more traditional and structured way.

The offer is aimed at a broad range of BNP Paribas clients in France, including individual investors, entrepreneurs, private banking clients, and users of Hello bank!. In later stages, the bank plans to expand access to other markets, particularly within wealth management services.

These new instruments have been added to the bank’s existing investment portfolio alongside stocks, bonds, ETFs, and structured products. This allows clients to manage multiple asset classes in one place.

BNP Paribas operates in 64 countries and employs nearly 178,000 people. Its extensive structure enables the integration of new technological solutions with established financial services, while maintaining high standards of security and regulatory compliance.
