Bitcoin Is No Longer the Hottest Investment of Early 2025, but Galaxy Digital Experts Say Its Comeback Is on the Horizon

Bitcoin Loses Its Shine

Bitcoin is no longer seen as “the most desirable investment at the start of 2025,” but its time will come again, says Alex Thorn from Galaxy Digital. According to him, the cryptocurrency market is entering a more mature phase — a shift that bodes well for Bitcoin in the long run.

At the beginning of the year, enthusiasm around Bitcoin was massive, especially following Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election. Back then, it was considered the hottest investment trend worldwide. As the months went by, however, investors shifted their focus to other sectors — artificial intelligence, nuclear energy, quantum technology, and gold. Thorn explains that these areas offered quicker profit opportunities this year, which reduced the flow of capital into the crypto market.

The expert highlights that the current “generational shift among Bitcoin investors” is a healthy development that leads to a more balanced ownership structure. Although Thorn remains optimistic about Bitcoin’s long-term outlook, Galaxy Digital has lowered its year-end price forecast from $185,000 to $120,000. With Bitcoin currently trading around $102,000, that still implies a potential gain of roughly 17%.

Over the past month, Bitcoin’s price has fallen by more than 15%, yet it remains one of the most important alternative assets alongside gold. According to JPMorgan analysts, rising gold price volatility is making the metal riskier — which, in turn, makes Bitcoin relatively more attractive to investors.

Another topic gaining attention is quantum computing. Some experts, like Amit Mehra from Borderless Capital, believe the potential threat quantum computers pose to Bitcoin is still distant. Others, including Charles Edwards of Capriole Fund, warn that the industry should move quickly to implement proper safeguards.
