Bitcoin Instead of Gold

Cathie Wood says Bitcoin could hit $1.5M by 2030 and replace gold in portfolios.

Bitcoin Instead of Gold

Cathie Wood, CEO of ARK Invest, has once again shared her bullish outlook on Bitcoin. In a recent interview, she encouraged investors to consider selling gold and buying Bitcoin instead. In her view, the cryptocurrency currently offers greater growth potential.

Wood describes Bitcoin as “digital gold.” She points to its fixed supply, capped at 21 million tokens. Unlike gold, which continues to be mined, the number of Bitcoins will never increase. According to her, this scarcity — combined with global accessibility — could translate into significant price appreciation in the years ahead.

The head of ARK Invest predicts that by 2030, Bitcoin could reach a value of $1.5 million. One of the key drivers behind this forecast is the growing interest from financial institutions. ARK Invest assumes an annual adoption growth rate of 5–10 percent across global assets. Additional demand may come from Bitcoin ETFs as well as companies adding Bitcoin to their balance sheets, such as MicroStrategy.

Wood’s comments have sparked widespread debate. Some investors share her optimism and believe that over the next decade Bitcoin could outperform gold in terms of returns. Others, however, question the assumptions behind these projections, particularly those related to adoption rates and broader macroeconomic conditions.

Not everyone agrees with Cathie Wood’s perspective. Many investors point out that gold has long been regarded as a safe-haven asset and a reliable store of value during economic turbulence. In times of uncertainty, the precious metal has often strengthened its role as a stable component of investment portfolios. Critics also note that in recent years Bitcoin has not always performed well during crises, and its price remains highly volatile. In their view, the cryptocurrency market is still largely speculative, which increases the level of risk for investors.
