Arthur Hayes: I Wouldn’t Buy Bitcoin Right Now

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of the cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX and a well-known Bitcoin supporter, says he would not invest even one dollar in the cryptocurrency at the moment. In his view, it is better to wait for a shift in monetary policy in the United States.

Speaking on the Coin Stories podcast, Hayes explained that for now he prefers to watch the market from the sidelines. According to him, the right moment to buy will come only when the U.S. Federal Reserve begins easing its monetary policy and increases the money supply again.

Hayes also believes that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could put additional pressure on the U.S. central bank. In his opinion, the longer tensions between the United States and Iran persist, the more likely it becomes that the Fed will start printing money to support the economy and military spending.

According to Hayes, people often say that war benefits Bitcoin. However, he argues that it would be more accurate to say that money printing is what truly benefits the cryptocurrency.

He is also not convinced that Bitcoin has already reached its price bottom. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency was trading at $69,480 — about 45 percent below its all-time high of $126,000 recorded in October. Hayes warns that geopolitical tensions could still push the price lower.

In the event of an escalation of the conflict, he believes markets could see a significant sell-off in both stocks and cryptocurrencies. In such a scenario, Bitcoin could fall below the $60,000 level, potentially triggering a wave of liquidations across the market.

Despite his short-term caution, Hayes remains optimistic in the long run. He predicts that by the end of 2026, Bitcoin could reach $250,000. He also believes that in the future there may be fewer and fewer periods when Bitcoin trades below $100,000.
