XRPL Gets a Major Update

A new version of the rippled software—3.0.0—has been released, forming the core of how the XRP Ledger operates. It’s a substantial update that includes numerous bug fixes, performance enhancements, and general code clean-ups. The improvements touch on many areas: consensus stability, ledger entry handling, node-to-node communication, and the overall functioning of the RPC interface. The project’s build system and dependencies have also been refreshed.

The update introduces one direct protocol improvement, addressing missing keylet fields in certain ledger objects. Changes of this kind—called amendments—are XRPL’s mechanism for rolling out new rules across the entire network. The codebase also includes early groundwork for future lending-related features, though these are not active yet.

The previous release, version 2.6.2 published at the end of November, added the fixDirectoryLimit amendment, which removes earlier restrictions on directory pages. It also resolved a critical issue affecting Batch transactions, where multiple operations are grouped together. Without the fix, a server could crash if all internal transactions in the batch turned out to be invalid. That update additionally prepared XRPL for more flexible escrow use cases.

Recent weeks have seen a sharp spike in network activity. At times, the number of transactions and payments surged by as much as 400 percent. Activity has since cooled down but remains significantly higher than it was in early November. Daily payments have stabilized between 600,000 and 900,000 XRP.
