SBI Ripple Asia Bets on Financial Tokenization
A new XRPL-based platform enables fast, low-cost, compliant blockchain payments in Japan.
SBI Ripple Asia has introduced a new solution built on XRP Ledger technology that could reshape how digital payments are carried out in Japan. The company has completed development of its token issuance platform and obtained official status as a prepaid payment instrument issuer.
The new system allows for the creation of prepaid tokens that can be used across multiple merchants. Users top up their accounts in yen just once and can then make payments in various locations without needing to reload funds. The experience is similar to a digital wallet, but powered by more advanced underlying technology.
The most significant improvements, however, happen behind the scenes. Transactions are processed in approximately three to five seconds and come with near-zero fees. For users, the process remains simple and familiar, while the infrastructure has been significantly optimized.
The system operates on transparent blockchain technology, increasing traceability of transactions and reducing operational costs. At the same time, the solution complies with existing regulations, allowing it to be integrated into the current financial system.
The platform rollout is part of broader efforts by SBI Ripple Asia. The company is also developing cross-border payment solutions between Japan and South Korea in collaboration with DSRV. Meanwhile, SBI VC Trade has introduced RLUSD in Japan, further strengthening the growing ecosystem built around Ripple technology.
Japan is emerging as a key testing ground for token-based payments. With clear regulations and openness to innovation, the country is uniquely positioned to combine traditional finance with blockchain solutions in a practical way.
This new platform demonstrates that blockchain can be implemented gradually—not through disruption, but through meaningful, real-world benefits for both users and institutions.
