Metaplanet Buys More Bitcoin
Metaplanet acquired $170.7 million worth of Bitcoin, increasing its holdings to 43,000 BTC.
Metaplanet has expanded its Bitcoin treasury with the purchase of an additional 2,823 BTC worth $170.7 million. The latest acquisition brings the company's total holdings to 43,000 BTC, currently valued at around $2.6 billion.
Listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Metaplanet has further strengthened its position as the world's third-largest publicly traded corporate holder of Bitcoin. According to Bitcoin Treasuries data, only Strategy and Twenty One Capital hold larger Bitcoin reserves.
Following the announcement, Metaplanet shares climbed 3.5% on Thursday, closing at 207 yen, or approximately $1.28 per share.
The company also released the financial results of its Bitcoin Income Generation business for the second quarter of fiscal year 2026. The division generated approximately 1.75 billion yen in operating revenue during the quarter, bringing the total for the first half of the fiscal year to around 4.72 billion yen.
Metaplanet's business model focuses on using Bitcoin options strategies to generate recurring income while continuously expanding its cryptocurrency holdings. Over the past 12 months, the Bitcoin Income Generation segment has produced approximately 11.4 billion yen ($70.7 million) in revenue.
