Memecoins Lose Momentum in 2025
Memecoin Market Sheds $5 Billion in a Single Day
The memecoin market has sharply cooled down, dropping to its lowest level of 2025. The total value of the sector shrank by more than $5 billion in just one day, and overall market capitalization is now over 60% below this year’s peak. This happened despite a noticeable increase in trading volume, suggesting that investors were rapidly pulling out of higher-risk projects.
Most major tokens saw substantial declines, and both Bitcoin and Ether fell below their levels from a week earlier. Popular memecoins such as Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, Pepe, Bonk, and Floki also posted significant losses, indicating a shift toward more cautious investment strategies. Even tokens that typically hold up better during market turbulence dropped in value this time.
A similar trend can be seen in the NFT space, where many well-known collections have also depreciated. Only a few projects managed to remain stable or record slight growth, highlighting the overall weakness of this segment.
