Investors lost $4.3B on TRUMP and MELANIA tokens
Investors lost $4.3B on TRUMP and MELANIA tokens while insiders made hundreds of millions.
Users who invested in memecoins named after U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife Melania Trump have suffered heavy losses. Data released by analytics platform CryptoRank shows that since the launch of the TRUMP and MELANIA tokens, their value has dropped sharply.
The TRUMP token has fallen 92% from its all-time high, while MELANIA has plunged as much as 99%. Retail investors who bought during the peak of hype and market interest were hit the hardest.
According to the data, individuals connected to the project and its earliest participants earned more than $600 million through transaction fees and token sales. Meanwhile, around two million wallets belonging to retail investors recorded combined losses exceeding $4.3 billion. This highlights a stark imbalance between insiders and ordinary users. Estimates suggest that for every $1 earned by insiders, retail investors lost approximately $20.
Profit concentration among major players is particularly striking. Just 45 whale wallets generated a combined $1.2 billion in profits. The situation has once again fueled debate over inequality in the token market and the influence large investors have on prices.
Experts also warn that selling pressure may not be over. Insider-held tokens worth approximately $2.7 billion remain locked until 2028. Once unlocked, additional supply could enter the market, potentially intensifying downward pressure on prices.
