Important warning for Solana Seeker users

Ledger has revealed that the popular MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip—used, among others, in Solana Seeker smartphones—contains a serious, unpatchable security flaw. Engineers Charles Christen and Léo Benito discovered that by using electromagnetic pulses, an attacker can take full control of a device during its boot process. This creates a real risk of extracting private keys, which some users store directly on their phones.

Ledger stresses that the issue cannot be fixed with a software update, as the vulnerability stems from the chip’s hardware design itself. Although the attack has a relatively low success rate—between 0.1% and 1%—it can be repeated every second until it works. According to the researchers, that means gaining control of the device can take only a few minutes.

MediaTek responded by saying that the MT6878 was never intended for financial applications or for protection against physical EMFI attacks. The company maintains that devices requiring stronger security measures should be built with dedicated hardware safeguards.

Christen and Benito began their research in February and successfully exploited the flaw in early May. They immediately passed their findings to MediaTek’s security team, which then notified manufacturers using the affected chip.
