Ethereum Foundation Disbands Protocol Support Team

The move is part of the Ethereum Foundation's ongoing organizational restructuring.

Ethereum Foundation Disbands Protocol Support Team

The Ethereum Foundation has disbanded its Protocol Support team, which was responsible for coordinating the development of the Ethereum protocol. The announcement was made on X.

The team played a key role in organizing All Core Developers meetings, coordinating work on upcoming network upgrades, supporting the development of Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), and overseeing the protocol's day-to-day development process.

The Foundation did not explain why it decided to dissolve the Protocol Support team. In its statement, it only confirmed that the team had been disbanded.

The decision comes amid a broader restructuring of the Ethereum Foundation. In late June, the organization announced a workforce reduction of around 20%, affecting 54 positions, alongside a new organizational structure built around five core areas of focus. According to the Foundation, the changes are intended to streamline Ethereum ecosystem development and improve the allocation of its resources.

It remains unclear who will take over the responsibilities previously handled by the Protocol Support team or whether its duties will be distributed among the Foundation's newly created organizational units.
