Drop in DeFi Attacks

In October 2025, the cryptocurrency market breathed a sigh of relief — losses from hacking incidents dropped to their lowest level of the year.
According to data from blockchain security firm PeckShield, cybercriminals stole a total of $18.18 million across 15 incidents. That’s an 85.7% decrease compared to September, when losses reached $127.06 million.

The biggest attacks targeted Garden Finance, Typus Finance, and Abracadabra, which together accounted for $16.2 million of the stolen funds.

Although October’s figures suggest an improvement in DeFi security, experts warn that the threat landscape continues to evolve. Reports increasingly point to state-sponsored hacking groups, including those linked to North Korea, experimenting with new attack methods — such as embedding malicious code directly into blockchain networks. This technique can bypass traditional security layers, posing a serious risk to decentralized systems.

This new phase of blockchain cyberattacks shows that while the crypto industry is strengthening its defenses, cybercriminals are keeping pace.
So, the safest month of 2025 might ultimately prove to be just a brief pause in an ongoing battle against ever more sophisticated threats.
