Crypto Firms Lobby Ahead of U.S. Elections
Crypto firms are pouring millions into U.S. campaigns to push for friendlier rules.
The cryptocurrency industry is becoming increasingly involved in U.S. politics. According to a report by Public Citizen, Crypto.com, Ripple and Coinbase have already contributed a combined $189 million to campaigns ahead of the 2026 U.S. congressional midterm elections. That amount is higher than what they spent during the entire previous election cycle in 2024.
Most of the money is going to political committees that support candidates with pro-crypto views. Fairshake has spent the most so far, putting more than $82 million into election campaigns. MAGA Inc., funded mainly by Crypto.com, has already spent over $56 million. Other major donors include Andreessen Horowitz, Ripple Labs and Coinbase.
The reason is simple. Crypto companies want to increase their influence in Washington and convince lawmakers to adopt regulations that are more favorable to the cryptocurrency market. The U.S. Senate is currently working on the CLARITY Act, a bill designed to set rules for oversight of the country’s digital asset market. Coinbase, Ripple and more than 200 industry organizations are urging lawmakers to pass the new regulations as quickly as possible.
According to Public Citizen, the cryptocurrency sector now accounts for about 37% of all corporate campaign contributions in the current election cycle. The organization notes that crypto-backed committees are funding both Republican and Democratic candidates. What matters most is their approach to regulating the cryptocurrency market.
