Cardano Founder on Losses and the Road Ahead
Charles Hoskinson says he lost over $3B in crypto, but remains committed to Cardano and confident in its future.
Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano, revealed during a Thursday livestream that he has lost more than $3 billion in the cryptocurrency market. Despite the scale of these losses, he stressed that he has no intention of stepping away or selling his holdings.
Hoskinson addressed the common argument that wealthy individuals can easily ride out market downturns. He called this view misleading, noting that he has personally lost more than most market participants. As he explained, he could have walked away long ago, but money was never his main motivation. He also added that he is not afraid even of a worst-case scenario involving total loss.
The Cardano creator emphasized that he has consistently avoided questionable deals and scandals, choosing integrity over influence or quick profits. In the past, he has also criticized some industry leaders for supporting flawed regulatory solutions in exchange for power and prestige.
Commenting on current market conditions, Hoskinson encouraged the crypto community to stay resilient during downturns. In his view, even the toughest periods can create opportunities for cooperation and further development of technology that has real potential to change the world.
Despite the ongoing bear market, Hoskinson remains optimistic about Cardano’s future. He pointed to progress in infrastructure, governance, and commercialization, highlighting projects such as Hydra, Leios, and Midnight.
He also reflected on his professional journey. After co-founding Ethereum and leaving the project in 2014, he launched Cardano in 2017 through IOG, focusing on a research-driven approach and sustainable development. In his remarks, he also expressed appreciation for his collaboration with Vitalik Buterin and Anatoly Yakovenko, describing them as allies in promoting cryptocurrency adoption.
