Trump Defends Billion-Dollar Cryptocurrency Profits
Trump says his billion-dollar crypto profits are legal and denies any conflict of interest.
Donald Trump has defended the profits he has earned from cryptocurrency ventures, insisting there is nothing illegal or inappropriate about them. Speaking to CNBC, the U.S. president dismissed criticism surrounding his involvement in the crypto industry.
Trump once again stressed that cryptocurrencies are an important part of the financial sector and argued that the United States should remain a global leader in digital assets.
When asked about reports claiming that he and his family earned more than $1 billion from cryptocurrency-related projects during the first year of his presidency, Trump rejected the allegations of wrongdoing. He maintained that all of his business activities comply with the law.
The president also said he had been involved in the cryptocurrency market long before taking office. However, he did not directly answer questions about a possible conflict of interest, repeating that his involvement in the industry began before his presidency.
Trump added that he does not personally manage his investments, explaining that others are responsible for overseeing them. He said his financial gains simply reflect the growth of the cryptocurrency market, just as they do for many other investors.
Earlier, a White House spokesperson told Benzinga that all decisions made by the Trump administration are aimed at serving the best interests of the American people. The spokesperson also dismissed suggestions that the president's cryptocurrency activities could create a conflict of interest.
