Tether Gold Approved by Abu Dhabi Regulator

Tether Gold, also known as XAU₮, has been recognized as an Accepted Spot Commodity by Abu Dhabi Global Market. This means that licensed companies operating within ADGM can offer products and services linked to tokenized gold, provided they hold the necessary regulatory approvals.

Tether announced the decision on July 20, 2026, through its website and official account on X. Samuel’s article covering the news was published on July 21.

According to the company, the approval followed discussions with ADGM concerning regulatory compliance, the project’s transparency, and its operational resilience.

XAU₮ enables ownership of physical gold to be recorded on a blockchain. Each full token represents one troy ounce of gold held in a bar that meets the London Good Delivery standard. This gives users digital access to a physical asset.

The decision expands the range of Tether products that can be offered through regulated entities in Abu Dhabi. ADGM had previously recognized USD₮ as an Accepted Fiat-Referenced Token.

ADGM says the new approval supports the development of a trusted environment for digital assets and tokenized real-world assets. It will allow licensed companies to introduce new financial products while complying with existing regulatory requirements.

The market for such assets is growing rapidly. According to industry data cited by Tether, their combined value has exceeded $31 billion, up from approximately $6.6 billion a year earlier.
