Spain Will Not Extend the MiCA Deadline

Spain confirms MiCA rules will apply from July 1 with no extensions or exemptions for crypto firms.

Spain Will Not Extend the MiCA Deadline

Starting July 1, companies providing cryptocurrency-related services in the European Union will be required to fully comply with the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. Spain's financial regulator has confirmed that the deadline will not be extended and that no exemptions will be granted.

Speaking to Reuters, Carlos San Basilio, Chairman of Spain's National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), said that any company failing to obtain the required MiCA license by July 1 should not expect additional time or special treatment.

According to San Basilio, the regulator is now focused on completing the transition period and is working closely with firms that have not yet secured authorization. The goal is to ensure the market adapts smoothly to the new EU regulatory framework.

Under the new rules, crypto platforms operating without a valid MiCA license will no longer be allowed to provide services freely to customers across the European Union from the beginning of July. While several exchanges managed to obtain approval shortly before the regulation takes effect, others have not completed the licensing process in time.
