Financial Influencer Stabbed in Brutal Attack
A subscriber allegedly stabbed a stock market YouTuber after suffering major investment losses.
A South Korean financial YouTuber was seriously injured after being attacked by one of his own subscribers in what police describe as a brutal knife assault. Local media report that the suspect may have blamed the creator for significant investment losses after following stock recommendations shared on the channel.
The attack took place on the morning of July 13 in Nam-gu, Busan. According to The Chosun Ilbo, the suspect, a man in his twenties, confronted the YouTuber inside a commercial building and stabbed him multiple times in the face and other parts of his body.
The attacker fled the scene but was arrested by police about two hours later at a nearby hotel. Investigators have charged him with attempted murder and requested that he remain in custody while the investigation continues.
The victim, a man in his forties, survived the assault. Although he suffered injuries to his face and body, authorities said his condition is stable and his life is not in danger.
According to The Chosun Ilbo, the suspect was a subscriber to the victim's investment-focused YouTube channel. Several South Korean media outlets claim he purchased stocks based on the influencer's recommendations and lost a substantial amount of money. Investigators believe this growing frustration may have led to the attack, although police stress that the motive has not yet been officially confirmed.
South Korean authorities have not released the identities of either the suspect or the victim. In line with standard practice during ongoing investigations, local media refer to them only as "A" and "B." Unconfirmed reports suggest the victim operates the YouTube channel Winners TV, but his identity has not been officially verified.
The incident has also reignited debate over the growing influence of online personalities who offer investment advice. Even creators who present themselves as experienced experts and attract hundreds of thousands of followers cannot guarantee profitable outcomes. Financial professionals continue to remind investors that all investments carry risk and that decisions should never be based solely on recommendations from social media influencers. Instead, they advise investing only money that one can afford to lose.
