Canary Capital CEO on Ripple’s Real Strength
Ripple’s impact comes from payments and RLUSD adoption, not XRP price—key for institutions and governments.
The CEO of Canary Capital, Steven McClurg, shared his view on where Ripple delivers its greatest real-world impact today. In his opinion, it’s not the price of the token that matters most, but practical use cases that solve tangible problems.
The most important area remains global money transfers. McClurg emphasizes that Ripple’s network enables faster and cheaper cross-border payments. This is especially crucial for countries where remittances from migrant workers make up a significant part of the economy. Even if this segment isn’t the company’s biggest revenue driver, the scale of the solution and its practical usefulness give it substantial importance.
However, McClurg sees the greatest growth potential in RLUSD—Ripple’s U.S. dollar–pegged stablecoin. He believes adoption could accelerate once the product is fully integrated across the company’s partner network. RLUSD is expected to operate within clear regulatory frameworks in the United States, which could boost trust among institutions and governments. Over the long term, the token could compete directly with USDC.
McClurg also addressed the topic of a digital dollar. If the U.S. government decides against launching a full central bank digital currency, the task could be delegated to private companies. In that scenario, Ripple and Circle would be natural candidates. According to McClurg, many countries have been studying digital currencies for years and often turn to companies with hands-on experience in stablecoins.
