Metaplanet Doubles Down on Bitcoin
Metaplanet significantly expanded its Bitcoin reserves in 2025, making the cryptocurrency a central pillar of its long-term strategy.
The Japanese publicly listed company Metaplanet announced a major increase in its Bitcoin exposure during the fourth quarter of 2025. According to an official statement, the firm purchased a total of 4,279 Bitcoins during this period at an average price of USD 105,412 per coin, investing approximately USD 451.06 million.
The company’s management emphasized that these purchases are part of a long-term digital asset strategy. Bitcoin is expected to remain one of the key reserve assets reported on Metaplanet’s balance sheet. Company representatives believe that this approach will strengthen financial stability over the long term.
Metaplanet also disclosed that since the beginning of 2025, the return on its Bitcoin holdings has reached 568.2%. This indicates that the cryptocurrency-focused strategy has made a significant contribution to improving the company’s overall financial performance.
As of December 30, 2025, Metaplanet held a total of 35,102 Bitcoins. The average purchase price of the entire portfolio was approximately USD 107,606, with the total acquisition cost estimated at USD 3.78 billion. Under current market conditions, these holdings are playing an increasingly important role in the company’s valuation.
Analysts note that Metaplanet’s strategy closely resembles the approach taken by large institutional investors in the United States. As a result, the company is considered a pioneer of this model in Japan. Growing interest from financial institutions is reinforcing Bitcoin’s image as a long-term store of value, and Metaplanet may continue to pursue similar acquisitions in the future.
