AI Could Transform the Face of Cryptocurrency

AI may simplify crypto, while stablecoins become the foundation of future payments.

AI Could Transform the Face of Cryptocurrency

Reeve Collins, co-founder of Tether, believes that artificial intelligence could completely reshape the cryptocurrency market. In a conversation with analyst Michael van de Poppe, he compared today’s moment to 1993, when the first web browser made the internet accessible to the masses. In his view, AI could do the same for blockchain technology.

The goal is simple: make cryptocurrencies easy to use. Instead of clicking through multiple confirmations for every transaction, users would only need to state what they want to do. An AI agent embedded in a digital wallet would handle the rest — executing payments, investing funds, or rebalancing portfolios by selecting the most efficient option. The technical complexity would remain invisible to the user.

The first steps in this direction are already visible. On February 10, Coinbase launched Agentic Wallets, a solution that allows AI agents to independently spend funds and trade on behalf of users. Meanwhile, a co-founder of Stripe announced a coming wave of commerce powered by AI agents and stablecoins. The CEO of Binance described the combination of AI and stablecoins as one of the defining trends of 2026.

Collins emphasizes that stablecoins are particularly well suited for this new payment model. Their price stability and 24/7 availability make them ideal for automated transactions. Businesses could send micro-payments to millions of people without complex accounting processes.

In 2025, the total value of stablecoin transactions reached $33 trillion — a 72% increase compared to the previous year and twice the annual transaction volume of Visa, according to Bloomberg and Artemis Analytics.
